Job summary

Gallup-McKinley County Schools seeks an Educational Assistant (1st Grade) for Thoreau Elementary. The role is on-site, 7.5 hours/day, 194 days per year, assisting the teacher with lessons, grading, and classroom management to support student learning.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalency and a Level III Educational Assistant license from NMPED; one year of related experience is desirable. On-site work attendance is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Experience: One year of related teaching assistance desirable.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Licensure: Level III Educational Assistant license from NMPED.
• Knowledge of early childhood development and classroom management.
• Ability to follow state and district curriculum guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in delivering course objectives and outline of study.
• Assist in implementing lesson plans, grading, and record keeping.
• Maintain files and records, including attendance and grades.
• Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments.
• Operate classroom equipment and office machines to prepare materials.
• Support student learning and reinforce concepts in small groups.
• Help teach rules of conduct and maintain classroom/playground order.
• Coordinate class field trips and supervise student activities.
• Foster a positive learning environment and respect diverse cultures.
