Job summary

Chico State Enterprises seeks a Student Development Coordinator to plan, implement, and ensure the integrity of TRIO SSS programming that supports first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds. The role involves advising, workshop development, and collaboration across campus to enhance retention and graduation rates.

The position requires organizing and supervising student employees, coordinating multiple projects, and occasional evening/weekend work during the academic year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, social work, or a closely related field.
• Two years of experience working with educationally and economically disadvantaged populations.
• Strong professional writing and public speaking skills; sound judgement; organizational and planning abilities; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, faculty, and administrators.
• Knowledge of factors affecting first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds.
• Must be a mandated reporter under California law and complete required compliance training.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate general program events, including the first-year enrichment program and orientation.
• Oversee first-year enrichment program activities with multiple departments.
• Coordinate financial wellness, STEP orientation, and student mentor programs.
• Conduct needs assessments and develop academic plans to support degree completion.
• Provide individual and group advising on academic, financial, career, and personal matters.
