Job summary

Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building plumbing equipment and fixtures consistent with manufacturer’s guidelines, design parameters, and accepted practices.
  • Install plumbing fixtures including piping, connections, insulation, showers, toilets, sinks, urinals, laboratory hoods and sinks, and other equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing fixtures and systems including metal and PVC components and connections.
  • Maintain and carry out operating repairs on plumbing equipment and fixtures.
  • Operate and keep in good working order a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, mobile electronic devices, measuring/diagnostic/testing meters, and instruments.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, sketches, schematics, and piping diagrams.
  • Perform brazing, silver and lead soldering, pipefitting as required.
  • Perform various carpentry, masonry, painting, and plastering work as required.
  • Coordinate repairs with other trades affected by plumbing operations.
  • Assist in furniture and event set‑ups and breakdowns, decorations for special functions, meetings, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities and the individual’s capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and current documentation indicating successful completion of formal training classes or programs and licensure in the plumbing trade or exhibit acceptable life experiences in plumbing work.
  • Possess backflow prevention license.
  • Be currently classified and working as Plumber 2nd Class and meet all qualifications for Plumber 2nd Class.
  • Have a minimum of five years of service in the trade at Villanova University (upon the discretion of Facilities Management).
  • Have the ability to follow both verbal and written directions in English; interact professionally with students, faculty, administration, and staff; read and understand OSHA guidelines such as Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment safety data plates, fuel/chemical flash points, etc.
  • Possess and maintain personal hand tools required for the trade.
  • Possess physical ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs and work in enclosed spaces.
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Maintain current ANSI/OSHA compliant training card to operate aerial lift, bucket truck, forklift, or all.
  • Have the ability to erect and work on scaffolding as per OSHA standards.
  • Have no disciplinary actions on file within the previous twelve months of applying for this position.
  • Have an excellent safety record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current OSHA 10 certification or higher.
  • Current backflow certification.
  • Ability to operate aerial/scissor lift, bucket truck and forklift.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs; work in enclosed spaces.
  • Core hours are Monday–Friday 7:30 am until 4:00 pm.
  • Starting earlier or staying later may be expected if emergency repairs are required.
