Job summary

Federal Signal Corporation in University Park, IL seeks an experienced embedded firmware engineer to design, develop, and test firmware for electronic hardware devices using embedded C/C++ and RTOS. You will implement video technologies and ML workflows with OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, YOLO, and TensorRT, collaborating with hardware teams for robust integration.

You will craft firmware architectures, document procedures, and support updates while adhering to coding standards and best practices;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• 5-7 years of embedded firmware experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems and RTOS.
• Experience with Python, rapid prototyping, and ML libraries.

Responsibilities

• Develop firmware architectures and algorithms to meet product requirements.
• Write clean, documented firmware in embedded C/C++.
• Implement video technologies using FFmpeg, GStreamer, H.264/H.265, RTSP, WebRTC.
• Evaluate OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, YOLO, and TensorRT for processing.
• Interact with microcontrollers, memories, peripherals, and interfaces via firmware.
• Work with RTOS to manage tasks with precise timing and priorities.
• Perform unit, integration, and system testing; debug firmware defects.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers for smooth firmware-hardware integration.
• Create technical documentation for firmware design and testing.
• Support firmware with bug fixes and feature updates; may travel to field/trade shows.
