Job summary

Federal Signal Corporation in University Park, IL seeks an experienced firmware engineer to design, develop and test low-level firmware for embedded hardware. You will create robust embedded C/C++ code, optimize for hardware constraints, and collaborate with hardware teams during integration.

The role involves implementing video streaming/test capabilities with FFmpeg, GStreamer, H.264/H.265, RTSP, WebRTC, and evaluating OpenCV/TensorFlow/PyTorch integration. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent from an accredited university.
• 5-7 years of relevant experience in embedded firmware roles.
• Proficient in C/C++ for embedded systems and RTOS usage.
• Experience with Python, OpenCV, TensorFlow/PyTorch for prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test low-level firmware for embedded devices.
• Develop firmware architectures and optimize performance within hardware constraints.
• Write clean, well-documented embedded C/C++ code following standards.
• Implement video tech using FFmpeg, GStreamer, H.264/H.265, RTSP, WebRTC.
• Evaluate incorporation of OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, YOLO, and TensorRT.
• Interact with microcontrollers, memory, peripherals, and interfaces via firmware.
• Work with RTOS to manage tasks with precise timing and priorities.
• Conduct unit, integration, and system testing; debug firmware issues.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers for seamless integration.
• Create detailed firmware design, implementation, and testing documentation.
• Support existing firmware with bug fixes and feature updates.
• May travel to field and trade shows as needed.
• Perform product evaluations to ensure compliance with standards.
