Job summary

VeeRteq Solutions Inc. in Rancho Cordova, CA seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer (BE) to own NAND and DRAM firmware development for SSD products. You will drive NAND management, boot-up flow, and hardware interfaces, delivering robust firmware with emphasis on data integrity and performance.

The role requires hands-on experience with NAND flash, DRAM timing, JTAG debugging, and embedded C/C++ development. Onsite in Rancho Cordova with visa sponsorship considered for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of SSD controller and firmware development experience.
• Strong C/C++ programming and embedded data structures experience.
• Hands-on NAND operations including program, read, erase, bad block management, read-retry, and error recovery.
• DRAM bring-up, memory controller timing, training, and stability validation.
• SSD boot-up flows and debugging using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.

Responsibilities

Senior Firmware Engineer (BE)

Salary: $ 180,000.00/Year | Full-Time | Rancho Cordova, CA

We have partnered with a large Semiconductor Manufacturing and Technology Services in the Rancho Cordova, CA area to provide them with a Senior Firmware Engineer(BE).

Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Senior Firmware Engineer(BE):

#1. 3+ years of experience in SSD controller and firmware development, with hands-on experience in NAND flash management.

#2. Strong C/C++ programming and data structures experience in embedded software/firmware development.

#3. Hands-on experience with NAND operations, including program, read, erase, bad block management, read-retry, and error recovery.

#4. Experience with DRAM bring-up, memory controller configuration, timing optimization, training, and stability validation.

#5. Hands-on experience with SSD boot-up flows, JTAG/ICE debugging, and hardware/firmware debugging using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.

Responsibilities of the Senior Firmware Engineer(BE):

• NAND Management
  • Maintain NAND flash operation flows, including program, read, and erase sequences across multiple channels, dies, and planes.
  • Implement bad block management, read-retry mechanisms, and error recovery flows to ensure data integrity.
  • Analyze and mitigate NAND-specific issues such as read disturb, program disturb, retention loss, and endurance degradation.
  • Optimize parallelism to fully utilize NAND bandwidth and improve throughput under mixed workloads.
• DRAM Bring-Up and Stability Verification
  • Configure memory controller parameters, timing settings, and power-on sequences.
  • Verify DRAM read/write correctness through functional and stress testing.
• SSD Boot-Up Flow
  • Maintain the SSD boot-up sequence, including firmware loading and system initialization.
• Peripheral Control and FW/HW Interface
  • Develop firmware for peripherals such as temperature sensors, power monitors, and GPIO-based controls.
• Debug and Validation
  • Capture and analyze NAND waveforms using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes to verify timing compliance.
  • Debug DRAM initialization, training, and boot-up-related issues, providing root-cause analysis and firmware fixes.

Requirements of the Senior Firmware Engineer(BE):

• Master s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in software/firmware applications engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience with SSD controller/firmware architecture.
• Strong experience in C/C++ programming and data structures.
• Hands-on experience with JTAG/ICE debuggers.
• Experience with version control software such as Git.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
• Must be willing to learn quickly and work effectively as a team player.
• Strong oral, written, and presentation skills for communication and documentation.
• Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and bus protocol analyzers.
• Familiarity with SATA/PCIe (NVMe) protocols.
• Familiarity with NAND flash protocols.
• Linux system debugging experience.
• Fluency in reading and writing Mandarin preferred.
