Job summary

Wild West Systems, Inc. is seeking a Firmware Engineer to develop embedded software for autonomous drones and munitions. You will work on STM32-based platforms covering flight control, perception, and mission planning, with a focus on real-time performance and reliable interfaces.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in a technical field, 3+ years of firmware experience, and Rust development. On-site Leander, TX, with opportunities to deploy critical systems in a defense-focused startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of professional firmware engineering experience.
• Solid mechatronics background.
• Experience developing production-quality firmware in Rust.

• Comfortable working in the intersection of electronics, sensors, actuators, motor control and embedded software

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of professional Firmware engineering experience.
• Solid Mechatronics background
• Experience developing production-quality firmware in Rust.
• Troubleshooting hardware/software interactions
• ITAR Eligibility: To Conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. Citizen or National, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 9 U.S.C section 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C section 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in defense, aerospace, robotics, or autonomy.
• Familiarity with drone/UAV systems, real-time operating systems, or embedded development.
• Experience at a high-growth startup or technology company with strong engineering practices.
• Experience taking systems from prototype through deployment
