Job summary

Torch Technologies, a 100% employee-owned company and a top defense contractor in Huntsville, is seeking a Firmware Engineer. You will analyze firmware, perform validation and timing analyses, and report vulnerabilities. Strong collaboration with engineering teams and adherence to industry standards are essential.

The role requires US citizenship and an active secret clearance, with a Bachelor’s in CS/Engineering or equivalent. Travel up to 20% and customer-site work are noted.

Qualifications

• US citizenship required with active clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS or engineering or equivalent experience.
• 2–8 years of applicable experience in firmware.
• Strong knowledge of static firmware analysis and CDC/RDC concepts.
• Experience identifying vulnerabilities in firmware and reporting them.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed firmware analysis to ensure system integrity.
• Work with FPGA tools and technologies for validation.
• Perform static analysis, design, and verification including timing analysis.
• Identify, document, and report firmware vulnerabilities and remediation.

Torch Technologies is seeking a Firmware Engineer to play a key role in supporting firmware development and validation efforts, providing actionable insights, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This position demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify and report vulnerabilities effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct detailed firmware analysis using tools to ensure system integrity and reliability.
• Demonstrable practical experience with FPGA tools & technologies.
• Perform static firmware analysis, design and verification including requirements capture, simulation, code coverage, synthesis, place & route, and timing analysis.
• Identify, document, and report vulnerabilities within firmware systems, providing actionable recommendations for resolution.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure firmware meets performance, functionality, and compliance standards.
• Provide technical support for firmware validation and testing efforts.
• Maintain thorough documentation of firmware analysis processes, findings, and recommendations.
• Stay up to date with emerging firmware analysis techniques and tools, actively suggesting improvements.

Required Qualifications:

• US Citizenship.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 2-8 years applicable experience.
• Strong understanding of static firmware analysis, Clock Domain Crossing (CDC), and Reset Domain Crossing (RDC).
• Experience identifying and reporting vulnerabilities within firmware systems.
• Experience in c/c++/java/python/vhdl/html/matlab
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with development teams and communicate technical findings clearly.
• Familiarity with industry standards for firmware development and validation.
• Must have an active secret clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven skills in firmware analysis tools, including Questa and Questa Inspect.
• Experience with high-profile defense or aerospace firmware systems.
• Knowledge of advanced firmware analysis techniques and methodologies.
• Familiarity with risk assessment and mitigation strategies for firmware vulnerabilities.
• Strong documentation skills to maintain detailed records of analysis processes and findings.
