Job summary

IDEX is seeking an embedded firmware engineer to join our hardware design team. You will develop firmware for IoT instrumentation, participate in technology research, and work with cross-functional partners to release high-quality products on schedule.

The role requires a solid background in embedded systems, RTOS, and C/C++, with emphasis on secure IoT communications and driver development. A Bachelor’s in a relevant field or equivalent experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or an Associate Degree in Electronics with 15 years of firmware experience.
  • Experience with firmware architectures and embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in C and C#, .NET and RTOS environments.
  • Experience with IoT security and device drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive new technology and product ideas and initiate projects with innovative solutions.
  • Analyze architectural and system engineering requirements for embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware team on specifications, electrical design, and embedded test software.
  • Create prototypes to demonstrate MVPs and new tech concepts.
  • Design, write and test firmware for electronics and electromechanical equipment.
  • Develop firmware to support core device operations and communications.

Works as part of an innovative hardware design team to provide advanced embedded firmware for a leading IoT (Internet of Things) instrumentation company. Perform technology research for developing novel flow monitoring products. Work with a highly motivated and focused team to release products on-time and on-quality.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Conceive new technology and new product ideas and initiate projects with novel and cutting-edge solutions
  • Analyze architectural and system engineering requirements for embedded systems
  • Collaborate with the hardware design team in the areas of product specification, electrical design, and development of electronics, sensors, telecommunications, and embedded systems and test software to release new flow monitoring systems
  • Create prototypes to demonstrate minimum viable product and new technology concepts
  • Design, write and perform test firmware for electronic and electromechanical equipment under development
  • Design, write and perform test plans to troubleshoot and find root cause of problems encountered during alpha and beta testing, and with products already released, including some legacy products
  • Support sustaining engineering to continuously improve sensor accuracy and performance
  • Develop embedded systems firmware to support core device operations and communications
  • Create knowledge database to preserve technical IP and instruct team members on processes to maintain competitive advantage and stability
  • Interact with cross-functional teams, commercial partners, and research collaborators
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

A minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Computer Science combined with the minimum experience described below; or an Associate Degree in Electronics combined with 15 years of experience in firmware design and including the minimum experience described below.

Experience in product development, with full lifecycle experience in the following:
  • Firmware architectures, preferably with intelligent sensor and software for remote monitoring applications
  • RTOS development for embedded systems using highly integrated SoC chipsets, development tools, emulators, and debuggers
  • Coding experience using C and C#, .NET
  • Experience with embedded IoT security preferred
  • Embedded firmware development - write device drivers, peripheral communications; write firmware, self-test code
  • IOT skillset - cellular communications
  • Securities Certificate
