Job summary

Sol-Ark Inc. seeks a skilled Firmware Engineer to design real-time control firmware for TI C2000 DSCs.

You will collaborate with hardware engineers to implement control loops, optimize power conversion, and ensure system reliability at our Allen, TX location. Responsibilities include firmware development for TI C2000 MCUs, real-time control, peripheral configuration (ePWM, ADCs, eCAP, eQEP), and driver architecture for CAN/SPI/I2C/UART.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in embedded firmware development for power electronics.
• Proven experience programming TI C2000 DSCs using CCS and C2000Ware.
• Deep understanding of power inverter operations, switching topologies, and digital control theory.
• Experience with CLA/TMU for parallel processing.

Responsibilities

• Firmware Development: Write clean, optimized C/C++ firmware for TI C2000 microcontrollers (e.g., F2837x, F28004x, F2838x).
• Control Implementation: Code real-time digital control loops (PI/PR controllers, SVPWM, grid synchronization PLLs) for power inverter topologies.
• Peripheral Configuration: Configure C2000-specific peripherals including high-resolution PWMs (ePWM), fast ADCs, eCAP, and eQEP.
• Driver Architecture: Develop low-level drivers and protocols for CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART.
• Testing & Debugging: Use JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies to test firmware on hardware.
• Safety & Protection: Implement fault detection and protection routines to safeguard hardware from over-current/over-voltage.

This position will be onsite at our corporate offices in Allen, Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth area).

Full-time W-2 ONSITE opportunity (not remote)!

About the Position:

We are seeking a skilled Firmware Engineer to design and develop real-time control firmware for our next-generation power inverters. In this role, you will write high-performance code specifically for Texas Instruments (TI) C2000 Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs). You will collaborate closely with hardware engineers to implement advanced control loops, optimize power conversion, and ensure system reliability.

Responsibilities:

Firmware Development: Write clean, optimized C/C++ firmware for TI C2000 microcontrollers (e.g., F2837x, F28004x, F2838x).

Control Implementation: Code real-time digital control loops (PI/PR controllers, SVPWM, grid synchronization PLLs) for power inverter topologies.

Peripheral Configuration: Configure C2000-specific peripherals including high-resolution PWMs (e.g., ePWM), fast ADCs, eCAP, and eQEP.

Driver Architecture: Develop low-level drivers and protocols for communication interfaces including CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART.

Testing & Debugging: Utilize JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies to test and validate firmware on physical hardware.

Safety & Protection: Implement time-critical fault detection and protection routines to safeguard hardware components against over-current and over-voltage.

Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in embedded firmware development for power electronics.
• MCU Expertise: Proven experience programming TI C2000 DSCs using Code Composer Studio (CCS) and C2000Ware.
• Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of power inverter operations, switching topologies, and digital control theory.
• Optimization: Experience utilizing the C2000 Control Law Accelerator (CLA) or Trigonometric Math Unit (TMU) for parallel processing.

Desired Qualifications:

• Familiarity with functional safety standards like ISO 26262 or IEC 61508.
• Knowledge of dual-core architecture programming and inter-processor communication (IPC).
