Job summary

Google DeepMind in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Firmware/Embedded Engineer for Sensing and Communications. You will design and implement low‑level firmware, integrate sensors, and drive hardware bring‑up across multi‑disciplinary teams to advance AI hardware.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in EE/CE/Physics and at least 2 years of firmware/embedded experience, plus 2 years in RTOS or bare‑metal environments.

Responsibilities

  • Architect unified low-level communications and sensor integration strategies across multi-modal sensor nodes.
  • Lead high-speed onboard embedded networking design (Ethernet, switches, PHYs, MACs) with deterministic traffic.
  • Drive real-time signal processing and filtering on resource-constrained targets to maximize sensor fidelity.
  • Bridge Electrical and Systems teams by guiding component selection and signal integrity for hardware bring-up.
  • Establish hardware-in-the-loop testing and real-time diagnostic pipelines to validate firmware performance.

Responsibilities
  • Architect unified low-level communications and sensor integration strategies, establishing bus interface standards (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN-FD) across multi-modal sensor and actuator nodes.
  • Lead high-speed onboard embedded networking design, including Ethernet switches, PHYs, MACs, and Linux DSA ensuring deterministic traffic flow and low-latency throughput between microcontrollers and compute modules.
  • Drive real-time signal processing and filtering algorithms on resource-constrained targets to maximize sensor data fidelity before high-frequency control loops.
  • Bridge Electrical and Systems teams by guiding component selection, bus topology, power sequencing, and signal integrity for seamless hardware bring-up.
  • Establish hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, deterministic safety mechanisms, and real-time diagnostic pipelines to rigorously validate firmware performance under harsh conditions.
