CTR Group is seeking a Yellow Badge Firewatch position in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Responsibilities include monitoring hot work, inspecting areas for flammable materials, and ensuring firefighting equipment is ready.

The role requires familiarity with OSHA firewatch standards and shipyard safety protocols. Applicants should be physically capable of standing long hours, working in confined spaces, and communicating effectively with welders and safety personnel.

Qualifications

• Experience as a firewatch in industrial or shipyard settings preferred.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme temperatures.
• Must be able to stand for long periods and stay attentive during shifts.
• Familiarity with OSHA firewatch requirements, shipyard safety rules, and hot work protocols.

Responsibilities

• Monitor hot work (welding, cutting, grinding) to prevent fires.
• Inspect work area for flammables and ensure prevention measures are in place.
• Position and check firefighting equipment (extinguishers, blankets) and keep them ready.
• Remain on site during hot work and for 30 minutes after completion to monitor residual risks.
• Report any sparks, flames, or hazards per shipyard safety procedures.
• Communicate with welders, shipfitters, and safety staff to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities & Requirements

• Prior firewatch experience in a shipyard or industrial setting preferred.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme temperatures.
• Must be physically capable of standing for extended periods and remaining attentive for long durations.
• Familiarity with OSHA firewatch requirements, shipyard safety regulations, and hot work protocols.
• Ability to operate fire suppression equipment, including portable fire extinguishers.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
• Must be willing to work various shifts, overtime, weekends, and in challenging shipyard environments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required shipyard access and security clearances if necessary.
• Continuously monitor hot work operations, including welding, cutting, and grinding, to prevent fire hazards.
• Inspect and clear the work area of flammable materials and ensure proper fire prevention measures are in place.
• Ensure fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other firefighting equipment are properly positioned and fully operational.
• Remain on-site for the duration of hot work and at least 30 minutes after completion to monitor for residual fire risks.
• Immediately report and respond to any sparks, flames, or fire hazards in accordance with shipyard safety protocols.
• Communicate effectively with welders, shipfitters, and safety personnel to ensure compliance with fire prevention procedures.
• Work in confined spaces, on scaffolding, and in high-temperature environments as required.
• Understand and follow all OSHA, NAVSEA Standard Items, and shipyard-specific fire safety regulations.
