Job summary

Baltimore County Government is seeking Probationary Firefighters to join the Fire Department. Under supervision, recruits receive Fire-Rescue Academy training, on-the-job instruction, and begin basic life support and firefighting duties.

Promotion and reclassification may require documentation of duties and dates. Applicants must submit required documents, including high school diploma or GED, and driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Requires possession of a high school diploma or equivalent at appointment.
• High school seniors and GED candidates on track to graduate may apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient assessment and vital signs.
• Attend and complete the Fire-Rescue Academy.
• Respond to alarms and perform firefighting, fire suppression and rescue operations.
• Administer basic life support to sick or injured.
• Drive or ride departmental vehicles and operate equipment.
• Prepare and maintain logs and reports.
