Job summary

The Greensboro Fire Department is seeking candidates for the 84th Recruit Academy. This non‑exempt position follows a 24‑week fire/EMT training program with physical testing and a six‑month probationary period. Work schedule alternates 24 hours on, 48 hours off.

Annual compensation includes a base salary of $49,724 with signing and educational incentives, plus opportunities for tuition assistance and bilingual pay. A comprehensive benefits package and retirement plan are provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18 (at the time you apply).
• Must have a valid driver's license from the state of residence, with a reasonable driving record and NO DWI convictions within 3 years of applying
• Must pass the Firefighter Abilities Test (FFAT), Suitability Test, and panel interview
• Must have a high school diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
• Must pass a rigorous medical examination, drug screen, and background check
• Must be a United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States
• Applicants must list at least three references on their application
• Corrected vision shall be at least 20/20 (Titmus) for both eyes together, and each eye separately; uncorrected vision shall be at least 20/100 (Titmus) in both eyes together but must correct to 20/20 with glasses or soft contacts; color vision deficiency is not acceptable; monocular vision is not acceptable
• Hearing‑cumulative loss shall not exceed predetermined frequencies in either ear; shall not have a combined loss of greater than 160 dB in both ears; hearing aids are not acceptable
