Job summary

DeKalb County is seeking a firefighter to respond to emergencies, perform life-saving operations, and support fire department activities. The role requires readiness, physical fitness, and adherence to safety policies.

The incumbent must hold a Georgia driver’s license, attain NPQ Firefighter II and EMT-B within 18 months, and meet minimum education requirements. Training and certifications will be pursued as part of the position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; must be at least 18 years of age; previous work experience preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; NPQ Firefighter II and EMT-B within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls including fire suppression, medical, hazmat, MVC, natural disasters and more.
• Provides protection of life and property; extinguishes fires; performs search, rescue and extrication; ventilation and salvage.
• Maintains readiness: checks equipment, reloads and tests gear, ensures EMS equipment stocked and operational.
• Participates in training, drills and continuing education activities; attends shift meetings as appropriate.
• Performs general maintenance of vehicles, buildings, quarters, apparatus and tools.
