City of Westerville seeks full-time Firefighter/EMT-Basics who will be enrolled in a paramedic program within 6 months of hire. Training is provided; tuition may be covered by contract guidelines for those already enrolled.

Hired candidates will start at a training rate and progress after certification completion. Work involves 24-hour shifts under supervision, with emphasis on safety and community service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong EMS knowledge and patient-care skills preferred.
• Ability to work in high-stress environments and make quick decisions.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and EMS alarms.
• Assists in fire suppression activities.
• Administers basic and advanced life support.
• Uses emergency medical equipment and supplies.
• Maintains equipment and fire station readiness.
• Removes individuals from hazards and fires.
• Operates pumps, hydrants and hoses.
• Assists with safety and rescue operations.
• Climbs ladders and uses PPE safely.
• Attends training to maintain certifications.
• Drives City vehicles during emergencies.
• Performs inspections to ensure code compliance.
• Participates in safety and educational programs.
• Works 24-hour shifts.
