Job summary

City of Kirkwood seeks a Firefighter/Paramedic to protect life and property through firefighting, emergency medical care, and prevention activities. You will operate fire apparatus, respond to alarms, and participate in hydrant inspections and community safety programs.

Candidates must hold a Missouri Paramedic license or NREMT‑Paramedic, current CPR, ACLS, PALS/Handtevy, and a valid driver’s license; ability to pass CPAT; and be at least 21 years old. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

Paramedic license required; ACLS/PALS/Handtevy; CPAT preferred or required before hire.
Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable for emergency response roles.
High school diploma or GED; continued training to maintain EMS certifications.
Experience in emergency medical services and fireground operations is preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively and work in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

Performs firefighting activities, including driving fire apparatus and operating pumps.
Provides emergency medical aid, treatment and transportation of patients.
Participates in fire drills and ongoing training in firefighting and hazardous materials.
Receives and relays fire calls, operates radios and communication equipment.
Participates in inspections of commercial occupancies and fire hydrants as directed.
Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities; conducts minor repairs and upkeep.
