Job summary

Town of Smithfield, NC is seeking a dedicated firefighter capable of basic firefighting, rescue, and EMT-Basic duties. You will respond to emergencies, operate SCBA, connect hoses, and assist in removing victims, while maintaining equipment and participating in regular training.

The role requires NC Firefighter I & II, EMT-B, and HazMat Responder I certifications, plus a commitment to obtain state certifications within 12 months. Work is performed on-site under supervision.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED with courses in fire service or commensurate experience.
• Successful completion of NC Firefighter I & II certification.
• NC Hazardous Materials Responder I certification required.
• NC EMT-B certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Ability and willingness to obtain required state certifications within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls and perform firefighting and rescue duties.
• Operate SCBA, connect hose lines, and direct water streams.
• Enter burning structures and ventilate as directed.
• Perform salvage, maintenance of equipment, and participate in training.
• Assist in keeping station, grounds, and apparatus in good order.
