Job summary

Dorchester County is seeking a firefighter to perform general firefighting duties, respond to emergency calls, and provide medical assistance on scene.

The position offers a base hourly wage of $17.53 with a 48-hour on / 96-hour off shift and built-in overtime beyond 106 hours in a 14-day cycle, paid at 1.5 times the base rate. The role requires a HS diploma, SC driver’s license, and appropriate certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid SC driver's license.
• IFSAC/Pro Board Firefighter I certification.
• NIMS-ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 training.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire/emergency medical and non-emergency calls.
• Performs firefighting and fire suppression activities.
• Administers emergency first aid.
• Participates in drills, demonstrations and courses in firefighting techniques.
• Adheres to station policies and procedures; ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations.
• Assists with pre-fire planning, prevention, and apparatus checks.
• Performs duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies.
• Utilizes all fire suppression equipment, hand, and power tools
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Fire Chief, other fire departments, other emergency response agencies, law enforcement agencies, co-workers, volunteers, and the public.
• Maintains cleanliness of station.
• Keeps physically fit.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
