Job summary

City of Roanoke Fire-EMS seeks Firefighter/EMTs to deliver fire suppression and EMS across 11 stations. With 24‑hour shifts, the role supports a high‑volume department serving Roanoke. Training through the Fire-EMS Academy is provided; EMT certification pursued within probation. No experience required beyond eligibility.

Applicants must be 18+, possess a VA driver’s license, and commit to rigorous duties, safety protocols, and ongoing education within a leading public safety agency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; must be 18 years or older.
• Ability to read, interpret safety rules and procedures; write reports.
• EMT certification within 12 months; Virginia driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire and EMS calls and provide emergency medical services.
• Drive and operate fire/EMS apparatus on emergency and non‑emergency incidents.
• Provide patient care and basic life support within scope of practice.
• Assist in equipment inventory, vehicle maintenance, and records.
