Job summary

Town of Elon Fire Department seeks dedicated firefighters to perform firefighting, emergency medical, rescue, and hazmat tasks. You will operate fire apparatus, assist in rescue operations, and maintain equipment readiness.

The role requires high school completion, NC firefighter and hazmat certs, and EMT-B. EVOC and NC Class B license are preferred, with ongoing training and community fire prevention programs.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or GED equivalency.
• NC Hazardous Materials Operations Certification is required.
• NC Firefighter Certification is required.
• Emergency Medical Technician – Basic is required.
• A valid NC Driver's License is required; EVOC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains readiness to respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance.
• Receives and responds to fires and emergency calls.
• Provides responses to emergency calls and administers life support techniques and procedures.
• Participates in hazardous material response and prevention programs.
• Responds to alarms and assists in fire suppression, rescue, entry, ventilation and salvage operations.
• Rides fire apparatus to scene and lays hoses, connects hydrants, and applies water or chemicals.
• Performs pre-incident planning for area businesses and buildings.
• Inspects and maintains apparatus and hose loads for readiness.
• Tests and maintains vehicles and equipment, including hydrants and stations.
