Prince George County Fire and EMS - Fire Medic Position

Prince George County Fire and EMS is currently seeking applicants for the position of Fire Medic.

This position will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, providing basic or advanced life support, engaging in active fire suppression, and preparing and maintaining detailed records.

Starting salary based on qualifications and years of service:

  • Recruit - $54,075
  • Fire Fighter EMT - $56,779
  • Fire Fighter Paramedic - $62,598

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of firefighting techniques, emergency medical procedures, rescue operations, and proficiency in operating fire suppression and medical equipment.
  • Ability to rapidly assess emergency situations and coordinate effectively with other emergency services.
  • Teamwork, scene size-up, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of building construction, fire behavior, hazardous materials, search and rescue techniques, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, physics, and mechanics related to fire suppression.
  • Familiarity with the street system and geography of the County.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and establish cooperative relationships.
  • Physical endurance, agility, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in Virginia.
  • Current certifications: CPR, NIMS, ICS (100, 200, 700, 800), EVOC (1-3), EMT-Basic (ALS preferred), State Certified Firefighter II, Haz-Mat Operations (DPO and Instructor I preferred).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
