Job summary

The City of Valdez Fire Department seeks a motivated Firefighter/EMT I to join three grant-funded, three-year positions. This full-time, non-exempt role operates on the Kelly Shift schedule and is represented by IAFF Local 5618.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• IFSAC/Pro Board Hazmat Operations Certification.
• IFSAC/Pro Board Firefighter I Certification.
• State of Alaska EMT I.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Alaska driver’s license within 90 days.
• Ability to pass a nationwide background check.
• Ability to pass a NFPA 1582 compliant physical exam (post-offer).
• Ability to pass a comprehensive drug panel screening (post-offer).

Responsibilities

• Perform firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties to protect life and property.
• Operate under the direct supervision of a Fire Company Officer.
• Work on a Kelly Schedule with long shifts and time off.
• Maintain physical fitness to meet department standards.
