Qualifications

• Successfully pass a Firefighter entrance exam.
• Successfully pass a Firefighter Combat Challenge course in less than 7 minutes.
• Pass an extensive background check.
• Pass a pre-employment physical and psychological examination.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Have a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
• Possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose and performing fire suppression, containment and extinguishment tasks.
• Also performs emergency aid activities for the ill and injured, including basic life support and providing other assistance as required.
• Receives and relays fire calls and alarms. Operates computers, radio and other communication equipment.
• Participates in the inspection of buildings, hydrants and other structures in fire prevention programs.
• Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities. Performs minor repairs to departmental equipment, apparatus and facilities.
• Presents education programs to the community on safety, medical and fire prevention topics.
• Performs salvage operations and shift work in a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
• Attends work as an essential function of the position.
