Duties Include: engaging in emergency medical services, firefighting operations, mitigation of hazardous materials emergencies, rescue services, functioning within the chain of command structure, fire prevention, inspection of buildings for code compliance, fire safety education, fire department record keeping and data entry, upkeep and repair of fire department equipment and buildings, other related emergency services and other duties as required.
Minimum requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, must maintain required certifications; candidates will be considered in the following order.
1. Currently Massachusetts Certified, EMT-P, and Firefighter I/II Certified;
2.Currently Massachusetts Certified, EMT-P, will need to complete the full-time Massachusetts Firefighting Academy program within one year of hire as a condition of employment;
3.Currently enrolled in a Paramedic Program to be completed and certified to the Paramedic level within one year of hire, and Firefighter I/II Certified as a condition of employment;
Requirements: must pass the Massachusetts Fire Fighter Medical exam, must pass the Massachusetts Fire Fighter Physical Agility Test, and maintain both, must be a non-smoker throughout employment with the Rutland Fire Department, and must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
Age: must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
Probationary period: one year per Massachusetts General Laws.
Labor Contract: This position is recognized under a collective bargaining agreement.
Work week: Schedules as follows: rotating 24-hour shifts; 1-1-1-5
Benefits are provided under a CBA, Rutland Professional Firefighters L4878.
Candidate(s) deemed most qualified will be invited to complete a full application for the selection process, which will include full documentation review, interviews, medical exam, physical ability test, psychological testing, and background investigation.
