Job summary

The City of LaGrange is seeking a dedicated Firefighter to respond to emergencies, perform life-saving tasks and protect property under high-stress conditions. The role requires physical endurance, good judgment and the ability to work independently as well as with a team.

Ideal candidates will have a High School diploma or GED, be within one hour of LaGrange, and obtain a Class B Georgia Driver's License within 12 months. Certification as Firefighter/EMT or Paramedic is a plus.

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

• Required to perform hazardous tasks under extreme emergency and highly stressful conditions with extended physical and mental exertion
• Highly skilled and extensively trained in the duties of life-saving and protecting property from fire and other emergency situations.
• Required to exercise good judgement independently and in emergency situations.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS

• Must be 18 years of age
• High School Diploma/GED
• Must be able to obtain a valid Class B Georgia Driver's License within 12 months of employment
• Live within one hour of LaGrange

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE

• Some college, Associate Degree in Fire Science
• Certified Firefighter/EMTs and Paramedics considered a plus
• Knowledge of the laws regarding Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
• Knowledge of the laws/regulations regarding employee health and safety, including Occupational Safety and Health provisions
• Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of fire operations personnel and variety of firefighting equipment
• Knowledge of city and departmental personnel policies, procedures and regulations and ability to enforce them
• Possess good working knowledge of departmental computers and experience with Microsoft Office software (preferred)
• Skill in use of all small tools, power tools, vehicles and rescue equipment
• Skill in the use of cameras, projectors and video equipment
