Job summary

Minimum qualifications include 18 years of age, a valid driver’s license, Firefighter II, NC EMT or NREMT, and Hazardous Materials Operations.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age by hire date.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Firefighter II Certification (IFSAC, ProBoard, DOD).
  • Have an NC EMT or NREMT Certification.
  • Hazardous Materials Operations Certification (IFSAC, ProBoard, DOD).
  • Preferred: NIMS 100/200/700/800; reciprocity options through NC OSFM.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls with a fire company.
  • Operate equipment, ladders, hoses, and extinguishers as directed.
  • Administer medical care and assist in rescue work.
  • Participate in training and drills; perform station and equipment maintenance.
  • Relay instructions and information; support incident command as needed.

Salary: $62,418.00 Annually

The Garner Fire Department is seeking a Fire Fighter to join their elite team of dedicated professionals committed to protecting lives, property, and the community. The selected candidate will serve on a rotating 48-hour shift schedule (A, B, C). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to fire suppression, hydrant maintenance, pre-fire planning and surveys, equipment inspection and maintenance, fire prevention education, upkeep of station facilities and grounds, as well as administrative tasks as assigned by the Fire Chief or Company Officer.

Examples of Duties:
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service with a fire company; operates auxiliary equipment; lays and connects hose; holds nozzles; direct water streams; raise and climb ladders; uses extinguishers, pike poles, axes, saws, and other equipment; and ventilates burning buildings using appropriate methods and tools.
  • Administer medical care, assists in rescue work.
  • Perform salvage and overhaul operations.
  • Participate in training and drills in all aspects of fire protection.
  • Perform general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire department property; clean, washes, and paints walls, ceilings, and floors; makes minor repairs to property and equipment; wash and dries hose; wash, cleans, polishes, and tests apparatus.
  • Relays instructions, orders, and information; give location of alarms received from dispatcher.
  • Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age by the date of hire
  • Have a valid Driver’s License, with a clean driving record
  • Have a Firefighter Level II Certification (IFSAC, ProBoard, DOD)
  • Have an NC EMT or NREMT Certification
  • Hazardous Materials Operations Certification (IFSAC, ProBoard, DOD)

Preferred Qualifications (or must be obtained within 12 months of employment):

  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 Certifications
  • TR and TR Vehicle Certifications or ability to obtainafter employment (IFSAC, ProBoard, DOD)
  • Reciprocity will be taken only when guaranteed through NC OSFM prior to testing
