Job summary

South Coast Lumber Company in Brookings, OR is seeking an entry-level Fire Watch / Production Support candidate. The role involves three shifts per week dedicated to fire watch duties (Fri–Sun) and one production shift per week for cross-training and coverage.

You will monitor hot work areas, assist millwright helpers, and ensure OSHA compliance. The production shift helps develop proficiency with machinery and processes, with potential to advance within the mill.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in fire watch, safety, maintenance, or industrial work is preferred but not required.
• Ability to stay alert and focused for extended periods.
• Basic understanding of fire hazards and safety precautions.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, industrial environment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime if needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long durations.

Responsibilities

• Fire Watch & Millwright Assistance (Friday – Sunday): Monitor hot work areas, identify hazards, assist millwright helpers, ensure safety protocols are followed, report concerns.
• Production Support (1 shift per week, varies): Assist general production tasks, operate machinery, handle materials, maintain a clean, safe work environment, and aim for progression to full-time production roles.
