Department: Career Technical Education

Basic Function

The Kern Community College District accepts applications from part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by department supervisors, deans, or division chairs. Applications remain active for up to two years.

Representative Duties

• Provide instruction in a full range of Fire Technology courses.
• Teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and use multiple teaching methodologies.
• Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.
• Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop and revise curriculum.
• Use computer and multimedia technology and participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of occupational and/or professional experience directly related to the courses taught.
• Associate’s degree and at least six years of occupational and/or professional experience directly related to the courses taught.
• Equivalent qualification combinations may be considered; candidates should request and submit an application for equivalence with supporting documents.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• All degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions. Degrees from outside the United States must be evaluated by an approved credentialing service.
