Job summary

Cosco Fire Protection in the Tri-Cities area of Washington seeks a Senior Fire Sprinkler Designer to advance layouts of fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems using CAD tools. Lead design work, develop submittals, and ensure code compliance while coordinating with MEP teams and general contractors.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with NFPA standards, hydraulic calculations, and shop drawings, plus strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of NFPA codes and fire protection design.
  • Experience with sprinkler hydraulics and shop drawings.
  • Ability to coordinate with MEP team and general contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and stock lists with a focus on applicable NFPA/local/state code compliance, project specifications/contract documents, and efficient and cost effective field installation.
  • Coordinate shop drawings with the MEP team and General Contractor utilizing NavisWorks.
  • Develop submittal packages for AHJ, Contractors, etc. Obtain all required approvals.
  • Purchase material, generate RFIs, prepare and maintain material submittals.
  • Communicate with field personnel, AHJ's, customers, sales reps, and field superintendents.
  • Retain full project responsibility for approvals, material procurement, coordination, schedule, and design budgets.
  • Attend all project related meetings.
  • Perform other job duties as required.

Fire Sprinkler Designer - Senior Level

Tri-Cities Area, Washington

Job Description:

Use CAD equipment to prepare moderate/complex layouts of fire sprinkler, standpipe and fire pump systems. Prepare detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for efficient field installation. Prepare submittals and obtain permits. Make decisions of high complexity, review questions from entry/mid-level designers and refer questions/problems to lead designer(s) and management. Demonstrate an exceptional understanding of design/drafting techniques, experience with fire sprinkler terminology, strong mechanical aptitude, and ability to complete mathematical calculations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Design Responsibilities


  • Develop shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and stock lists with a focus on applicable NFPA/local/state code compliance, project specifications/contract documents, and efficient and cost effective field installation.

  • Complete accurate field surveys when needed.

  • Coordinate shop drawings with the MEP team and General Contractor utilizing NavisWorks.

  • Develop submittal packages for AHJ, Contractors, etc. Obtain all required approvals.


Project Management Responsibilities


  • Purchase material, generate RFIs, prepare and maintain material submittals. Assist with change order pricing, negotiation, and review.

  • Communicate with field personnel, AHJ's, customers, sales reps, and field superintendents.

  • Retain full project responsibility for approvals, material procurement, coordination, schedule, and design budgets.

  • Attend all project related meetings.

  • Perform other job duties as required.


Key Skills and Capabilities


  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents (drawings, specifications, ASIs, etc.).

  • Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude .

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), AutoCAD, and Fire Sprinkler Design software (e.g. AutoSprink, HydraCAD etc.).

  • Working knowledge of hydraulic calculations, stocklisting, project design, and project management. Abilty to review and approve work product of other design team members.

  • Practical experience designing Wet, Dry, Deluge, and Pre Action Sprinkler Systems for installation. Design experience with fire pumps and standpipes is required.

  • Special Hazards design experience (e.g. fixed water spray, clean agent, foam, etc.) a plus.

  • Strong familiarity with general construction practices and terms.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable negotiating with customers, vendors, etc.

  • Organized, detail oriented, self starter able to operate in a team environment.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 13D, 13R, 14, 20, 25 and associated Codes/Standards.


Minimum Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent, postsecondary education preferred.

  • 7 Years (10+ years preferred) years experience in Fire Protection Design

  • Experience with Revit, NavisWorks, Auto-Cad, HydraCad and AutoSprink a plus.

  • NICET III

  • Experience with Factory Mutual a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This role has informal supervisory responsibility. Ability to lead entry/mid-level designers on larger projects and review/approve their work product.


Preferred license or certification: NICET III (Min), NICET IV or Fire Protection PE


Education: Associate or Bachelor (preferred)
