Job summary

Our Client is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer to join an established fire protection organization in New Jersey. The role focuses on designing water-based sprinkler systems for residential and multifamily projects, with on-site work required.

You will develop sprinkler layouts, hydraulic calculations, and coordinating with architecture and other disciplines, while pursuing NICET certification and advancing technical responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Direct professional fire sprinkler system design experience.
• Ability to read architectural drawings and specs.
• Residential or multifamily sprinkler design experience preferred, including mid-rise/high-rise.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed water-based sprinkler system designs that meet codes and project specs.
• Develop sprinkler layouts, design drawings, hydraulic calculations, and docs.
• Review construction documents to determine system requirements and coordination.
• Coordinate sprinkler layouts with buildings systems and disciplines.
• Participate in BIM and 3D coordination as required by the project.
• Update designs for field conditions, changes, and authority comments.
• Work with project managers, engineers, and contractors throughout the design process.
• Evaluate constructability and provide practical installation solutions.
• Manage multiple design assignments with accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide guidance to junior designers when appropriate.

Our client is an established fire protection organization expanding its design capabilities to support a strong and growing project pipeline. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer who wants to take ownership of meaningful projects, work alongside knowledgeable industry professionals, and continue advancing technically. Focus:

• Create detailed water-based fire sprinkler system designs that meet applicable codes, project specifications, and construction requirements.
• Develop sprinkler layouts, design drawings, hydraulic calculations, and supporting project documentation.
• Review architectural and construction documents to determine system requirements and identify potential design or coordination challenges.
• Coordinate sprinkler layouts with building systems and other construction disciplines to support efficient installation.
• Participate in BIM and 3D coordination activities when required by the project.
• Update designs to account for field conditions, construction changes, coordination feedback, and comments from reviewing authorities.
• Work closely with project managers, field personnel, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders throughout the design process.
• Evaluate constructability and develop practical solutions that help field teams execute installations efficiently.
• Manage multiple design assignments while maintaining accuracy, quality, and project schedules.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to developing members of the design team when appropriate.

Skill Set:

• Direct professional fire sprinkler system design experience, with the ability to independently perform sprinkler layout and design work without extensive entry-level training.
• Strong understanding of water-based fire protection systems, sprinkler design practices, applicable NFPA standards, and construction documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and related construction documents.
• Residential or multifamily sprinkler design experience is strongly preferred, particularly involving mid-rise or high-rise construction.
• NICET certification in Water-Based Systems Layout is preferred, with Level II representing a particularly strong match. Experienced designers without NICET certification may also be considered.
• Experience with AutoSPRINK is highly desirable, although candidates with substantial experience using other established sprinkler design platforms may be considered.
• Revit, BIM, and 3D coordination experience are additional advantages.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across design, project management, and field teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities while producing accurate and constructible designs.
• Ability to work full-time on-site and currently reside in New Jersey or an immediately commutable location.
