Job summary

The Hiller Companies, LLC in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer to create detailed sprinkler system designs using CAD and the AutoSPRINK platform, translating concepts into precise technical plans.

You will perform hydraulic calculations, read construction documents, apply NFPA standards, and collaborate with AHJs, contractors and team members to list materials and coordinate permitting and inspections.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required; Degree preferred in Sprinkler Design.
• NICET Certification level II required; III or higher preferred.
• 4+ years’ experience in fire sprinkler design.
• Proficient use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required, SprinkCAD is preferred.
• Proficient in interpreting NFPA standards and construction documents.
• Must obtain and retain licenses required by codes.
• Experience with various system types and manufacturers.
• Strong knowledge of IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
• Able to read architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
• Detail-oriented with accuracy and quality; strong communication.
• Travel as needed.

Job Summary

A Fire Sprinkler Designer is responsible for using computer-aided design (CAD) to create detailed drawings and layouts, calculate dimensions and material requirements. The designer’s role is to assist in the creation of functional and well-designed products and structures by translating design concepts into accurate technical plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed designs of fire sprinkler systems using specialized computer-aided design (CAD) software packages that are based on the AutoSPRINK platform.
• Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components.

• Perform hydraulic calculations, visualizing 3D concepts and solving basic mathematic problems, including geometry and algebra.

• Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems based on the building type, construction type, hazard classifications, and architectural features.
• Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
• Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials.
• Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
• Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
• Identify opportunities for cost-saving measures and quality improvement.
• Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
• Provide outstanding customer service.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For

• High School Diploma/GED required; Degree preferred in Sprinkler Design.
• NICET Certification level II required; III or higher preferred.
• 4+ years’ experience in fire sprinkler design
• Proficient use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required, SprinkCAD is preferred.
• Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards, and in reading and interpreting construction documents.
• Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by national, state/province, and local codes.
• Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
• Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.

• Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to travel as needed.
