Job summary

Summit Fire & Security is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Apprentice to assist in laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and sprinkler systems. The ideal candidate is coachable, mechanically inclined, and able to follow directions under supervision.

Responsibilities include installing pipe systems, cutting and threading pipes, bonding components, reading blueprints, and calculating material measurements to ensure proper installation techniques.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Must enroll and obtain current Fire Sprinkler License.

Responsibilities

• Assist Sprinkler Technicians with installing pipe systems, valves, and components.
• Learn to cut, thread, assemble and bond pipes and tubes per specs.
• Modify, clean and maintain pipe systems, units and fittings; replace worn parts.
• Learn to read blueprints and calculate material measurements.
• Follow proper installation techniques and meet project schedules.

Job Summary

The responsibility of a Fire Sprinkler Apprentice is to assist in the laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. Ideal candidate will be coachable and mechanically inclined.

Essential Job Duties

• Assist and learn under the direction of Sprinkler Technician Journeymen in the following:
  • Install pipe systems and valves
  • Cut, thread, assemble and bond pipes and tubes according to specifications
  • Modify, clean and maintain pipe systems, units and fittings
  • Remove and replace worn components.
• Learn to follow blueprints to meet product specifications.
• Learn how to calculate material measurements to verify specifications.
• Learn proper installation techniques.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Certifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Must be able to enroll and obtain current Fire Sprinkler License.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements

• Mechanical ability and basic hand tool knowledge
• Work efficiently with minimal supervision under direction of Sprinkler Technicians
• Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, customer service skills, decision making skills, ability to multitask, ability to meet project schedules, ability to plan and organize, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to train other is required.

Communication Skills

• Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.

Systems and Software Skills

• Ability to read electronic blueprints, strongly preferred.

Other Qualifications

• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
• Must be able to comply with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift <75lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Employee is required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus. Employee will occasional be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift <75lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.

Work Environment

Frequent local travel and occasional regional and non-regional travel is required. Employee will frequently be required to work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures and be exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes and odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards frequently. Employees will occasionally be exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven and slippery surfaces. Employee must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies.
