Under regular supervision, responds to fire emergencies, rescues, hazardous material, and medical calls occurring on a military installation. Perform 24-hour standby for fire suppression and rescue operations under conditions that can be extremely stressful and dangerous. Operate fire apparatus and other related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, tools, protective clothing, and other assigned equipment. Participate in training and evaluation exercises as required. Provide medical assistance at the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) level or higher. In the absence of a Senior Fire Officer assumes command of the emergency scene until relieved. Performs other duties as assigned by higher fire authorities.
A high school diploma, Firefighter I/II training certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard), Pump Operations I, and Emergency Vehicle Driver’s Training (EVDT) certifications. Must meet NFPA-1582 physical standards. General knowledge of firefighting practices.
Applicants must have a valid South Carolina state driver’s license or obtain within 45 days of employment if in possession of an out of state license. The position requirement calls for certification at the Firefighter II skill level from a federal or state equivalent fire training school. Must have a basic knowledge of fire apparatus operations and driving skills and meet the standards set forth in NFPA 1002 (Fire Apparatus Drive/Operator Qualifications) within six (6) months of employment. Possess basic working knowledge of Hazardous Materials Operations and First-Aid techniques. Broad working knowledge of structural firefighting and rescue techniques. Have a working knowledge of Fire Prevention procedures and practices. Have the ability to perform assigned duties and able to lift 100 lbs. six (6) feet high. Continued employment will be contingent on selected individual passing a Firefighter Physical based on NFPA 1500 (Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program) standards, Drug Testing, and Background Check. If required, obtain a National Security Clearance at the “Secret” level. McCrady Fire Department provides 24/7 emergency services working three (7)-person shifts working 24hrs on/off with an average 53hrs work week and 106hrs scheduled pay period.
