Job summary

University Health System- San Antonio is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support fire alarm and sprinkler systems. You will assist with minor maintenance, repairs, testing and inspections, and ensure all fire extinguishers are checked and maintained across facilities.

The role requires reading plans, specifications and codes, safe handling of materials and tools, and cooperation with trades to keep fire safety equipment compliant and ready for use at all times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Reading and interpreting plans and codes is beneficial.
• Experience with blueprints and schematics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance, repairs, testing and inspection of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
• Inspect and check all types of fire extinguishers.
• Support trades by bypassing and acknowledging fire alarm panels and annunciators, and maintain/clean fire alarm devices.
• Ensure safe, competent, efficient, and timely performance of assigned tasks; use materials, supplies, tools and equipment properly.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in minor maintenance, repairs, testing and inspection on fire alarm and sprinkler systems along with the checking of all types of fire extinguishers within University Health (the Health System) buildings and facilities Helps different trades bypass and acknowledge fire alarm panels, annunciators along with maintaining and cleaning fire alarm devices. Ensures safe, competent, efficient, and timely performance of assigned tasks. Cares for and uses materials, supplies, tools, and equipment properly.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Reading, interpreting and applying plans, specifications, blueprints, schematics, codes and work orders is a good quality to possess but not necessary.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

A valid Texas State driver’s license “Class C” and must maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record and insurable by the Health System.
