Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Trainee Fire and Rescue Officer to participate in the Fire-Rescue Academy training program. This limited assignment provides the training needed to become a Fire and Rescue Officer, including EMT training and basic fire suppression, with an 18-month maximum duration.

Essential functions include attending courses, learning fire suppression and emergency medicine, and maintaining consistent attendance.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old and under 36 at the time of the civil service examination.
• Pass a physical ability test approved by the civil service board and administered by Dallas Fire-Rescue or its designee.
• Must have demonstrated safe driving habits and be able to drive a motor vehicle in Texas.
• For military service, a designation of honorable or uncharacterized discharge must be shown on separation documents.

Responsibilities

• Attends formal courses to gain knowledge in fire suppression and emergency medicine.
• Performs related duties and special projects as requested.
• Maintains regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
