Job description

The Stafford Fire & Rescue Department is seeking an Information Technology Support Technician II. The IT Support Technician II will perform front-line difficult technical work assisting in the maintenance and support of public safety computer systems to sworn, volunteer, and civilian employees within the Fire and Rescue department. This position will follow County IT guidelines and department procedures and policies for end users to maintain, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot hardware and software systems. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Business Information Systems Analyst.

The hiring range for this position is from $27.87/hour to 38.33/hour based on experience.
The full salary range for this position is from $27.87/hour to 48.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

About Stafford County Fire and Rescue
The Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department is an all-hazards response agency. The combination career and volunteer department provide emergency response and mitigation to all fire, rescue, emergency medical, and hazardous materials incidents. Additionally, the department is the lead agency for emergency management and oversees building plan review and fire code enforcement, fire and environmental crime investigation, and public fire and life safety education and preparedness.

The department is headquartered in the Public Safety Center in Stafford, VA, and responds to emergencies from 15 fire and EMS stations. The diversity of Stafford County and its location in the Washington, DC metro area present many challenges and opportunities for the department. Over 32 languages are spoken, and the county is one of the fastest-growing in Virginia.
  • Provide support to remedy computer, audio/visual, basic network, printing, and other technology-related issues in a timely and professional manner;
  • Develop training resources for end-users on various hardware and software solutions;
  • Assists in the management and configuration of emergency radio devices;
  • Manages IT Asset Inventory;
  • Coordinates and documents the repairs of damaged devices through third-party vendors;
  • Assists in managing and maintaining the Emergency Operations Center devices;
  • Resets passwords and assists in managing department user accounts;
  • Responsible for assisting and informing the purchasing process, configuring and installing new devices, and assisting with inventory management;
  • Performs setup and ongoing support of mobile data computers and tablet devices for field operations units;
  • Interface with vendor technical support, assist with operating system and software upgrades;
  • Gather and interpret IT requirements as needed;
  • Trains and provides hardware and software support to end users;
  • Performs PC installations and maintenance;
  • Assists in providing networking and communications for local and remote users;
  • Assist with researching, evaluating, and recommending computer hardware and software products;
  • Obtain quotes, submit, and track purchase requests for hardware and software while adhering to Stafford County’s purchasing guidelines and policies;
  • Coordinates and administers system failover;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of computer systems software, applications, hardware, networking, and communications;
  • Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in area of expertise;

A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Computer Technology or related field and one (1) year of prior experience with providing workstation support.

Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and HDI Support Center Specialist preferred.
