Job summary

Polk County Fire Rescue is seeking a Driver Engineer to operate and maintain fire apparatus, deliver emergency medical care, and protect life and property during fires, rescues, and hazardous events.

The role requires strong decision-making, physical fitness, and the ability to work within a team. You will drive, train, and assist in incident management with a focus on safety and readiness.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent and valid Florida Fire Marshal Compliance Certificate or verification letter, with Certificate of Compliance.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a full-time paid Firefighter in a public sector career Fire Department in Florida.
• Must hold EMT or Paramedic license issued by Florida DOH.
• CPR and AIS certifications: BLS/ACLS/PALS as required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive advanced life support vehicles as needed.
• NIMS certifications: ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, IS-800.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and emergency calls; wears protective gear and uses firefighting and rescue tools.
• Drives emergency vehicles; logs equipment and maintains readiness.
• Operates pumper and aerial trucks; controls water flow and system pressure.
• Supports search, rescue, suppression, patient extrication and ventilation operations.
• Participates in fitness training, drills, pre-fire surveys and documentation for readiness.
• Maintains apparatus and equipment; assists in evacuation and investigations as required.
