Summary
We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for fire sprinkler systems, service work, repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial fire protection systems, construction drawings, applicable codes, material and labor requirements, and project pricing. This position will work closely with customers, contractors, sales, engineering, project management, and field operations to develop successful proposals and support projects from initial scope through award.
Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine fire protection requirements.
- Prepare detailed estimates for fire sprinkler installations, repairs, upgrades, and service projects.
- Estimate projects ranging from smaller service work to larger $100K-$1M+ projects.
- Develop material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and other project cost estimates.
- Interpret architectural and engineering drawings and identify project scope, requirements, and potential challenges.
- Prepare accurate and competitive proposals and quotations.
- Obtain and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Conduct job walks and pre-bid site visits as required.
- Communicate with general contractors, customers, engineers, and vendors to clarify scope and project requirements.
- Identify discrepancies, exclusions, assumptions, and potential risks within bid documents.
- Work closely with project managers, designers, sales, and field personnel during the estimating and project handoff process.
- Assist with change order pricing and additional scope as needed.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, bid documents, and project information.
- Track upcoming bid opportunities and prioritize estimating activities based on deadlines and business objectives.
- Stay current with fire protection industry requirements, materials, labor conditions, and applicable codes.
- Maintain strong relationships with contractors, customers, suppliers, and industry partners.
- Support business development efforts by providing technical and estimating expertise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
- 3+ years of experience in fire sprinkler estimating, design, project management, or related fire protection experience.
- Strong knowledge of commercial fire sprinkler systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bid documents.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, and applicable local building and fire codes.
- Experience estimating fire sprinkler projects and developing detailed proposals.
- Understanding of material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and installation costs.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with project and field teams.
- NC Fire Sprinkler license or NICET III preferred.
- Fire protection sprinkler estimating experience is required.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with fire protection estimating software preferred.
- Experience with CRM, ERP, project management, or construction management software is a plus.
