The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) offers mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for various building types, including public, municipal, private, and Federal projects worldwide. Our experienced team specializes in sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources, delivering engineering excellence with a focus on sustainable design and energy efficiency.

The HDR BES team in New Jersey is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer/Specialist to join us.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support and lead fire protection design for complex projects like hospitals, research facilities, and data centers.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques to address fire protection issues.
  • Design fire protection systems, including wet, dry, and specialty systems.
  • Manage drawings, specifications, schedules, budgets, and oversee staff.
  • Collaborate with clients and contractors.
  • Design sprinkler layouts and develop hydraulic calculations using software.
  • Interpret data for design teams and ensure accuracy in deliverables.
  • Mentor team members and perform field verifications.
  • Review codes and standards for project integration.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and review shop drawings.
  • Assist in writing project specifications and monitor construction progress.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Fire Protection PE license preferred; without it, the candidate will be titled 'Fire Protection Specialist.'
  • Experience with fire alarm, life safety, and detection systems advantageous.
  • Relevant NFPA and NICET certifications are a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit is desirable.
  • Local candidates are preferred.

  • Strong skills in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with specialty software for fire system design.
