Responsibilities

• Serve as Designer of Record for fire protection design projects, including schedule, budget, delegation of work to junior staff, quality control, and sealing or stamping construction drawings and specifications.
• Gather information, interview stakeholders, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches as required.
• Present findings and outcomes to clients and other stakeholders.
• Perform high-level tasks with minimal supervision using defined standards, procedures, and codes.
• Research products and assist project designers and project architects with material selection and system research.
• Design fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm system layouts using hydraulic calculation programs and knowledge of ICC, NFPA, International Building, and International Fire Codes.
• Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks, including document management and processing RFIs and change orders.
• Provide staff development and mentoring for junior staff while ensuring quality delivery of work completed by supervised staff.
• Provide project quality‑control reviews at project milestones and continuous over‑the‑shoulder discipline checks.

PAY: $47.00/hr - $82.00/hr DOE LOCATION: Arlington, VA 22201 WORK ARRANGEMENT / WORK TYPE: Hybrid; two days per week in the Arlington office SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM TRAVEL: Less than 15%; overseas and U.S.-based travel may be required

Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Safety Technology, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of fire protection design experience.
• Proficiency in REVIT.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous DoD experience.
• Basic competency with Federal energy standards, Unified Facility Criteria (UFC), and other government requirements.
• Design‑Build experience.
• DBIA certification.
• Clearance or ability to secure a clearance.
• PE in any U.S. state and successful completion of the fire protection engineering examination.

Work Environment

• Work in a fast‑paced environment under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
• Perform construction administration and field investigation activities as assigned.
• Travel is expected to be less than 15% and may include overseas and U.S.-based travel.
