Our clients frequently come to us only knowing the symptoms of their problems - we get the challenge (and fun) of investigating and figuring out what’s really wrong. We deliver multiple solutions and work with the client to pick the best solution for their case. Then we get to do the actual work of carrying out our ideas and solving their problems for good.

Most of our projects are renovations, frequently of only the MEP/FP systems, so it makes for some interesting and challenging projects. The fun of renovation work is dealing with the existing constraints imposed by the structure or building operations. We find ourselves regularly solving problems like how to make the equipment fit into an existing building or figuring out how the contractor will build your design. This position will report to the Associate / Branch Office Manager / Senior Mechanical Engineer in charge of the Raleigh Office.

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR SUMMER CONSULTANTS?

• Pursue the PE exam.
• Dive into designing quality projects from day one. Lead system design, including chilled water, heating water, and air handling systems surveying existing conditions, assisting in project management and coordination, and lots more fun stuff.
• Help us tackle our clients’ problems.
• Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
• Help maintain our 95% referral rate and high contract performance ratings.

Requirements

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING WITH YOU?

• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering (HVAC focus), Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• 4 to 9 years’ experience in HVAC system design.
• Experience with energy modeling a plus.
• Experience in production of construction documents and follow-on construction services. Position includes performing field surveys, and preparing code analyses, calculations, equipment selections, and specifications.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Proficient in either AutoCAD or Revit.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to conduct day-long field surveys outdoors and indoors in conditioned and unconditioned spaces, including walking up to 10-20k steps in a day, climbing up and down a 6-foot ladder, kneeling, squatting, and bending.
• Ability to obtain site access at client locations.
• Ability to travel up to 10 nights in a year, in addition to day-long field surveys.
