Job summary

Metric Geo, an employee-owned architecture and engineering firm in the Alexandria, VA area, is seeking a fire protection engineer to lead design and analysis of active and passive fire protection systems across federal, municipal, higher education, and industrial projects. Hybrid work is available.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and support senior leaders on technically complex, mission-critical projects. A PE license and NFPA knowledge are required.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
  • 4+ years of fire protection engineering experience.
  • PE license obtained through the NCEES Fire Protection exam.

Responsibilities

  • Design fire suppression and fire alarm systems.
  • Produce building and life-safety code analyses.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Develop reports, specifications and drawing packages.
  • Coordinate active and passive fire protection requirements across disciplines.
  • Participate in technical reviews and site investigations.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers.
  • Work with senior technical leaders and project stakeholders.

Locations: Atlanta, GA / Alexandria, Richmond or Lynchburg, VA

I’m working with a highly regarded, 100% employee-owned architecture and engineering firm looking to expand its fire protection team.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in the design and analysis of active and passive fire protection systems across complex federal, municipal, higher education and industrial projects. You’ll work within established multidisciplinary teams while helping develop a growing specialist fire protection practice.

The role
  • Design fire suppression and fire alarm systems
  • Produce building and life-safety code analyses
  • Perform hydraulic calculations
  • Develop reports, specifications and complete drawing packages
  • Coordinate active and passive fire protection requirements across engineering disciplines
  • Participate in technical reviews and site investigations
  • Support and mentor junior engineers
  • Work directly with senior technical leaders and project stakeholders
What they’re looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
  • At least four years of fire protection engineering experience
  • PE licence gained through the NCEES Fire Protection Engineering exam
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, building codes and life-safety requirements
  • Experience with Revit and hydraulic calculation software
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
