Job summary

Salt Lake City Fire Department is seeking a Fire Prevention Specialist to support fire prevention and life safety programs. You will conduct inspections, enforce safety codes, and develop engaging educational activities for the community.

Under supervision, you will interact with the public in challenging situations, coordinate with city departments, and provide training as needed. This role offers full city benefits and a chance to make a meaningful impact daily.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience in communications, fire, or related industries.
• Fire Inspector I certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Working knowledge of fire prevention methods, building and fire codes, and enforcement.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints.
• Strong communication with management, staff and the public.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conducts general inspections for compliance with fire codes and laws.
• Consults with public and agencies on fire prevention and life safety.
• Represents department at events and prepares related materials.
• Performs research for inspection, enforcement and public education activities.
• Maintains liaison with department and other public safety agencies; may train others.
• Develops and delivers life safety programs and educational materials.
• Other duties as assigned.
