Job summary

Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a Fire Safety Technician to support and maintain fire safety and emergency response programs on the Upper East Side. The role involves building and equipment inspections, vendor coordination, and active participation in drills and incident command as required.

Strong teamwork and knowledge of NFPA standards are essential. Responsibilities include managing the extinguisher program, liaising with FDNY, and training staff in alarm procedures and hot-work permits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of fire-related work experience total full-time or 18 months with at least 6 months at one location.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergencies and assume Incident Command as needed.
  • Inspect buildings annually for fire and life safety deficiencies; coordinate remedies.
  • Test and inspect fire safety equipment; update Emergency Preparedness Plans.
  • Manage Fire Extinguisher Program and coordinate vendor inspections and tests.
  • Liaise with FDNY for inspections or alarm activations as necessary.
  • Train staff on alarm response procedures, Hot Work inspections, and permit issuance.
  • Conduct fire drills and inspections of Emergency Operations Centers and Public Assembly Spaces.
  • Create and update fire-safety bulletins and participate in fire prevention week activities.
