Position and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Director of the Fire Academy, the Fire Technology Instructor will provide instruction in Fire Technology in various settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, or off-campus, and in large group instruction as needed. The instructor will be responsible for:

• Providing academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses.
• Assessing and developing cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking through assignments in one-on-one, classroom, and distance learning settings.
• Advising and instructing students regarding programs of study, other higher education institutions, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills.
• Assessing student learning outcomes to improve student learning.
• Referencing students to support services and resources as appropriate.
• Observing and evaluating student performance in meeting course objectives and outcomes.
• Providing timely feedback to student inquiries in class, online, or during office hours.
• Planning instruction according to approved course outlines and outcomes to maximize learning.
• Maintaining current records of enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and outcomes.
• Submitting data and reports related to course and student progress timely.
• Maintaining professional conduct and currency in teaching fire technology.
• Communicating effectively with students and staff and maintaining working relationships.
• Evaluating and selecting instructional materials in collaboration with discipline faculty.
• Ordering instructional materials as per campus procedures to ensure timely delivery.
• Revising and updating course content with new theory and industry developments.
• Evaluating student progress through various assessments in alignment with course objectives.
• Providing syllabi to students and collaborating with faculty on measurable outcomes for curriculum and program development.
• Using diverse pedagogies and technologies for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
• Maintaining classroom records per District Policy and turning in grading and evaluation reports timely.
• Teaching assignments across multiple instructional settings and times as needed.
• Participating in articulation, matriculation, and related activities.
• Fulfilling duties as required by Administrative Regulation 7122 and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to equity-minded practice in the classroom. Minimum qualifications include one of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; and State Fire Training (SFT) / International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) / Pro Board Fire Instructor one (1); or Fire and Emergency Services Instructor one (1); or National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators Instructor one (1) certifications.
• Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; and SFT/IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Instructor one (1); or Fire and Emergency Services Instructor one (1); or NAEMSE Instructor one (1) certifications.
• A valid California Community College Credential; and SFT/IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Instructor one (1); or Fire and Emergency Services Instructor one (1); or NAEMSE Instructor one (1) certifications.
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency). Note: If degrees on transcripts do not match exactly, petition for equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications

• Related work and professional experience; OSFM Skills Evaluator or Lead Evaluator qualification.
• Online teaching certification through Fresno City College.
• Ability to develop new and current curriculum and focus on student learning outcomes.
• Proficiency with computers and technologies used in high-quality instruction and support for students.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
• Effective communication skills and ability to maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
• Experience with diverse student populations and commitment to equity in the classroom.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and community college mission.

Additional Information

This position does not have a closing date; applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. You will be placed in a continuous pool with start dates varying. About Fire Technology

Fresno City College Fire Academy was founded in 1992 by Mike Collins. FCC Fire Academy is Accredited by the State of California and an ARTP through the California State Fire Marshal’s office. The program prepares students for initial employment and upper-division coursework toward a bachelor’s degree.
