Bay Alarm Company is seeking a Fire Inspector to perform inspections and testing of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, ensuring regulatory compliance and safety. You will conduct independent fieldwork, coordinate with customers, and document findings for timely job completion and billing.

Requirements include 2+ years' experience, a high school diploma, NICET II or CFAT2 certification, and knowledge of NFPA/UL standards. Seattle FA1 certification is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA and UL standards preferred.
  • Dual certification in fire alarm and water-based systems preferred.
  • Washington State BAT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and testing of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports noting deficiencies and improvements.
  • Independently contact customers to schedule inspections in a timely manner.
  • Work autonomously in the field while collaborating with team members as needed.
  • Coordinate daily with Inspections Manager, Scheduling, and other teams regarding status and billing.
  • Maintain compliance with NFPA standards and local regulations.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Fire Inspector performs inspections and testing of fire alarm and sprinkler systems to ensure regulatory compliance and operational safety. This role involves independent fieldwork, customer coordination, detailed reporting, and collaboration with internal teams to support timely job completion and billing.

Job Duties:
  • Perform routine inspections and testing of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards
  • Complete detailed and accurate inspection reports, documenting deficiencies and recommended improvements
  • Independently contact customers to schedule and coordinate inspections in a timely and professional manner
  • Demonstrated the ability to work autonomously in the field while collaborating effectively with team members as needed
  • Communicate and coordinate daily with the Inspections Manager, Scheduling team, and other internal teams regarding job status, delays, requirements, closeout, and turnover for billing
  • Maintain compliance with NFPA standards, company procedures, and local jurisdictional requirements
  • All other miscellaneous responsibilities and other duties as assigned
Requirements:

  • NICET 2 Fire Alarm System or Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm System or ESA Certified Fire Alarm Technician Level 2 (CFAT2) required
  • Seattle FA1 certificate preferred, or ability to obtain required * NICET II Inspection and Testing of Water-Based System required.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA required -UL standards in addition preferred
  • Dual certification in fire alarm and water-based systems preferred
  • Seattle certifications (FA-ITM, FA-1, AS-ITT, AS-3, FP-ITM, FP-1, FEX-1) preferred
  • Washington State BAT (Backflow Assembly Tester) certification preferred
  • Basic knowledge of construction and electrical wiring required.
  • Aptitude in the use of hand tools required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Good interpersonal skills required.
  • Word processing and basic spreadsheet skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record required.
  • Final applicant will need to have the ability to pass a pre-employment screening process.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Frequent driving, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crawling or crouching and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Frequent lifting/moving up to 50 lbs, occasional lifting up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, small parts, and installation components.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, rooftops, or other elevated areas.
  • Ability to utilize equipment ladders, boom and scissor lifts following weight restriction standards.
  • Visual and auditory acuity required to diagnose issues and ensure proper installation or repair.
  • Tolerance for repetitive tasks and prolonged periods of physical activity in various conditions.
  • May require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or steel-toed boots.
  • Work is performed at customer sites, outdoors, in attics, crawl spaces, or construction zones, often in varying weather conditions.
  • Must cooperate with and receive approval related to, any customer required conditions for placement or work on customer premises, including any government or regulatory required conditions for placement or on-premises work.
  • Exposure to moving mechanic parts, extreme heat or cold, strobe lights, dust, dirt, loud noises, electricity, and potentially fumes/airborne particles, hazardous equipment or materials.
  • Daily travel is often required between job sites, which may include long driving hours.
  • Variable work hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts based on service demand.
  • Interactions with customers on-site require professionalism, clear communication, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Must adapt to changing job environments, equipment, and technical requirements on a regular basis.
