Job summary

Liberty Steel USA in Peoria, IL is seeking a diligent Fire Inspector to oversee fire prevention, inspection, and life safety across the Peoria facility on-site. This full-time role emphasizes routine inspections, coordination with operations leadership and local fire officials, and maintaining compliance documentation.

The position requires strong attention to detail, NFPA knowledge, and the ability to educate staff on fire safety while supporting emergency preparedness and incident

Qualifications

• 3+ years of fire inspection, fire service, or industrial fire safety experience.
• Working knowledge of NFPA codes and applicable fire and life safety regulations.
• Experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine fire and life safety inspections across plant buildings and operations.
• Inspect and test fire suppression systems, extinguishers, and alarm systems for compliance.
• Identify and document fire hazards, recommending corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and compliance documentation.
• Support development and maintenance of fire response and evacuation plan.
• Coordinate with the local fire department on inspections, drills, and emergency response planning.
• Assist in incident investigation for fire-related event.
• Conduct monthly inspections of all E-lights to ensure proper operation.

Location: Peoria, IL (on-site)

Employment type: Full-time

Starting range: $18.54 with increases after 500 hours, 1000 hours, and 1500 hours in the department

Second shift differential $.35

Third shift differential $.50

Weekly attendance incentive $.75/hour. You can achieve this incentive by having no call ins or tardiness!

Position Overview

The Fire Inspector is responsible for fire prevention, inspection, and life safety compliance across the Peoria facility. This role conducts routine inspections, maintains fire protection systems, and supports emergency preparedness planning in a high-hazard industrial environment.

This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to build cooperative working relationships with operations leadership and local fire officials.

Core Responsibilities

Fire Prevention & Inspection

• Conduct routine fire and life safety inspections across plant buildings and operations


• Inspect and test fire suppression systems, extinguishers, and alarm systems for compliance


• Identify and document fire hazards, recommending corrective actions


• Maintain accurate inspection records and compliance documentation

Emergency Preparedness

• Support development and maintenance of fire response and evacuation plan


• Coordinate with the local fire department on inspections, drills, and emergency response planning


• Assist in incident investigation for fire-related event


• Conduct monthly inspections of all E-lights to make sure they are working properly

Training

• Deliver fire safety and prevention training to employees


• Support hot work permit programs and fire watch procedures

Qualifications

• 3+ years of fire inspection, fire service, or industrial fire safety experience


• Working knowledge of NFPA codes and applicable fire and life safety regulations


• Fire Inspector certification preferred (State Fire Marshal or equivalent)


• Experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment preferred


• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills


• High school diploma required; relevant certifications strongly preferred
