Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking an entry-level Portable Support Technician to assist in inspecting and maintaining portable fire protection equipment. You will learn under direct supervision and support experienced team members while gaining knowledge of NFPA standards and safety practices.

You will assist with tagging, documentation, and basic compliance checks, while traveling to job sites and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; no minimum experience.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in fire life safety.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment under direct supervision.
  • Support senior technicians with service tasks including tagging, documentation, and basic compliance checks.
  • Learn and follow NFPA standards, company procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Transport tools, materials, and equipment to job sites and maintain records of work performed.
  • Follow safety policies and communicate progress to supervisors; travel to job sites as required.

The Portables Support Technician is a responsible for assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire protection equipment. This position is designed to provide hands-on training under direct supervision. The role will support experienced team members while learning applicable codes, standards, and safe work practices related to fire and life safety systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with inspection and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment under direct supervision. Support senior technicians with service tasks including tagging, documentation, and basic compliance checks. Learn and follow NFPA standards, company procedures, and safety protocols. Transport tools, materials, and equipment to job sites. Maintain accurate records of work performed as directed. Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored. Follow all company safety policies and procedures while working in the field. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job progress and needs. Perform work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments. Use hand tools and testing equipment under supervision. Travel to job sites as required. Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. No minimum experience required. Ability to follow instructions and work under direct supervision. Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop technical skills. Basic mechanical aptitude preferred. Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license (if driving role).

Other Duties

Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and climbing ladders. Ability to lift 50+ pounds. Ability to work in various environments including commercial, industrial, and construction settings. Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work for extended periods.
