Job summary

MSS Fire and Security, LLC in Charlotte, NC (also Raleigh, NC) is seeking a Fire Engineer to design fire alarm, security, and CCTV systems. You will create shop drawings, perform calculations, and prepare submittals for construction, coordinating with sales and operations.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of fire alarm design experience, with the ability to meet North and South Carolina licensing requirements and contribute to project success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Five years minimum of fire alarm system design engineering experience.
  • Ability to satisfy North & South Carolina licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create fire alarm shop drawings including floor plan device layouts, equipment selections and bill of materials, voltage drop calculations, battery load calculations, system narratives and specifications.
  • Design fire alarm, security, and CCTV systems from project specifications for installation.
  • Prepare required submittals and hand off to operations.
  • Assist in initial job site walkthroughs for retrofit or replacement assessments.
  • Support field installation and commissioning of security and fire detection systems per specs and QC.
  • Interface with pre-construction team as needed.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and orderly work areas.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Create fire alarm shop drawings including floor plan device layouts, equipment selections and bill of material lists, power supply voltage drop calculation, secondary battery load calculations, system narratives and specifications, system design and layout, field investigation, and construction administration.
  • Receive project specifications from the sales team and design associated fire alarm, security, and CCTV systems for installation.
  • Prepare all required submittals and schedule subsequent hand-off to operations.
  • May participate in initial job site walk-through for assessment of current installations considered for retrofit or replacement.
  • Support and assist the field installation and commissioning of security and/or fire detection and alarm systems in strict accordance with specifications and quality control.
  • Interfaces with the pre-construction team as required.
  • Follows safety rules and keeps work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Fire Alarm systems (Honeywell Notifier product experience a plus) and associated Building and NFPA fire Code requirements.
  • Knowledge of Security and CCTV Alarm systems (Honeywell product brand experience a plus) and associated Building and NFPA fire Code requirements.
  • The position requires experience in the preparation of contract fire alarm shop drawings and specifications, field survey skills, performing calculations, and a thorough knowledge of State and Federal fire alarm and building code standards.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or other equivalent engineering disciplines and; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and field experience.
  • Five years minimum of fire alarm system design engineering experience.
  • Ability to satisfy North & South Carolina Security licensing requirements.
  • Experience in Healthcare and Data Center design a plus
  • Licensed Professional Engineer is not required but would be a bonus.
  • Physical Demands: Constant sitting, walking short distances, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and/or below shoulder, handling/grasping documents or office equipment, clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in-person and/or on the telephone, vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data, repetitive motions for computer equipment use, lift 25 lbs. occasionally, 5-10 lbs frequently to lift/carry/move objects, files and documents.
  • Must successfully pass a background check & drug test.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment with air conditioning and bright lights.
